The Discovery Coast is always a good place to look for a great holiday deal or special. Perhaps it is because the Discovery Coast does not have the high profile enjoyed by other holiday destinations, but you can nearly always find holiday specials and packages in this region. This region stretches along the central Queensland coastline from Bundaberg and Bargara in the south through to Rockhampton and Yeppoon in the north and includes the towns of 1770 and the city of Gladstone. Famous island resort exist offshore on the Great Barrier Reef that attract international tourists.
One of the most popular family destinations on the Discovery Coast are the twin towns of Agnes Water and 1770. This town was named after the year that captain James Cook became the fist European explorer to land on the east coast of Queensland at this point. Bargara is the resort town that has grown on the coastline close to Bundaberg. Both Bargara and 1770/ Agnes water have a growing number of holiday resorts springing up along their respective coastlines and both are a good spot to look for holiday accommodation specials and packages.
The Great Barrier Reef lies just offshore and there are three coral atolls here that will interest you. Lady Musgrave island can be visited by day tour from 1770. Cruises run daily to a pontoon observation platform inside the lagoon at the island. Lady Elliot Island has the best priced resort on any of the Great Barrier Reef islands and its two star rating mans that prices are reasonable. Heron Island has the best quality resort in this region and its smaller partner island, Wilson Island, caters for very small numbers of guests in a remote location. All of these places will have holiday specials and packages available from time to time.
