Holiday accommodation specials and holiday packages are frequently available in the Fraser Coast region of south east Queensland. This region extends north from Rainbow Beach which is situated at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast, through to Hervey Bay and encompasses the whole of Fraser Island and the Great Sandy region National Park. Much of the region is world heritage listed and some of the scenery here is among the best in Australia. Fraser Island especially is a paradise of crystal clear lakes, rainforests and vast ocean beaches. It is the one place on the planet where tropical rainforest grow in sand and almost the entire island is on the world heritage register.
Hervey Bay is the main entry point from the from the mainland for Fraser Island and is famous in its own right as the whale watching capital of the world. Thousands of humpback whales visit Hervey Bay every year as part of their annual migration and it is the only place you can see whales in calm waters. A large fleet of purpose built boats operates from Hervey Bay each year to show tourist the whales. Hervey Bay also has a wide range of resort style accommodation and there are often specials in the marketplace.
Fraser Island is a sensational holiday destination and you will need to spend several days to see it all. There are dozens of lakes and many hectares of beautiful rainforest to explore. Beach fishing is popular and scenic flights are also available. There are resorts on the island as well as holiday homes, camping areas and backpacker hostels. Tour companies run day or extended tours from either Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay.
At some times of the year, the Fraser Coast is very busy with people on holidays, while at other times there will be packages and accommodation specials readily available.
