The Gold Coast is holiday central in south east Queensland and if you can find some accommodation specials and packages here you are sure to have a great time. Australia has some fantastic holiday venues but there are none that are as popular as the Gold Coast. This region is just south of Brisbane and consists of a succession of great surf beaches fringing a narrow coastal plain that has almost been covered with sensational high rise holiday resorts. Overlooking the coastal plain is the Great Dividing range and the Gold Coast hinterland. The Gold Coast incorporates many local suburbs and as you drive north from the New South Wales border, you will start in Coolangatta and drive through Burleigh Heads, Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise, Main Beach and Southport.
Surfers Paradise is the center of the holiday action. Here the esplanade is lined with apartment resorts and international hotels. The Cavill Avenue mall has shopping arcades for souvenirs, alfresco dining along the footpaths with cafes and restaurants featuring food from cultures around the world. Just north of Surfers is Main Beach which is a continuation of what Surfers Paradise has to offer but without the crowds. It joins onto the Southport Spit with its sensational resorts, marina's and the internationally acclaimed Seaworld theme park. Just to the south of Surfers Paradise is the Broadbeach area which has the same beachside ambience as Surfers plus it is home to a great shopping center which features an alfresco dining arena. The Jupiters casino is here together with the Pacific Plaza shopping center. All of these regions are packed out with thousands of apartments in beautiful resorts and hotels.
To the south, the pace is a bit slower and both Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta are more in line with a family holiday destination. The accommodation options remain the same and there are still plenty of things to do and the beaches are even better, if that is possible. All this is complimented by some of the best theme park action in the world with Dreamworld and Movieworld adding to the holiday attractions mentioned above.
