Lady Elliot Island is the most affordable of all the Great Barrier Reef Islands. While its accommodation is clean and comfortable it does not claim to be any more than two and a half star. The island is a coral cay and is positioned directly on the reef itself, so you can walk in off the beach and go snorkeling or diving. lady Elliot Island is also a bird and turtle rookery. Many seabirds return here year after year to nest and raise their young and some of these are extremely rare. Turtles are often seen on the beach at night laying their eggs and hatchlings are a common sight on the island.
