It is located around one hours drive north from Brisbane and is most famous for its fantastic beaches and great seaside holiday ambience. The Sunshine Coast stretches from Caloundra in the South to Rainbow Beach in the North and incorporates such important tourist towns as Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Coolum and Noosa. Each of these holiday destinations has its own tourist infrastructure and attractions. Tens of thousands of visitors come to the Sunshine Coast annually from within Australia and also from international destinations. Some of the internal destinations on the Sunshine Coast are tourist icons inside of Australia. Both Noosa and Mooloolaba fall into this category. In the south, Caloundra has lots to offer. It has both calm water and surfing beaches all complimented by many new seaside resorts. Mooloolaba has a fantastic beachfront location with a row of high rise resorts along the beachfront. The street side is lined with alfresco restaurants and diners and some very fashionable cafes. This region is always full of holiday makers and locals enjoying the holiday atmosphere. Maroochydore is next door and is the commercial center of the Sunshine Coast. Its idyllic location on the banks of the Maroochy River means that it too has plenty of holiday resorts and attracts many tourists as well. Both Maroochydore and Mooloolaba would be good places to find holiday packages and specials, especially during the low season. During school holiday periods, you will need to book months in advance. North of the Maroochy River are Marcoola, Coolum and the sensational destination of Noosa. All have great beaches, but Noosa is the jewel in the crown when it comes to Sunshine Coast holiday destinations. It is blessed with a fantastic location at the estuary of the Noosa River system. Its beach is a favourite among the surfing fraternity and the Noosa National Park is superb. The Hastings Street precinct is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Australia and it attracts the wealthy to its superb resorts, fantastic restaurants and beautiful shops. Rainbow Beach is the furthest north and the southern access point for Fraser Island. All of these destinations are popular tourist haunts and all have plenty of top class tourist resorts and facilities. As with any popular tourist destination, the Sunshine Coast will have a supply of accommodation that is from time to time, includes in holiday packages or special offers are made to attract more patrons. |
